Very Unusual Lorenzo also stamped Ropp Locarno 8766 and A.I.A.Civette Paris ????:

This is another pipe from the European collection I bought last year, so has to date from the late 1980s at least, and is stamped Lorenzo on the top of the shank, and has the Lorenzo L logo on the stem and with it\'s Orange stain is a typical Lorenzo of the period. What I have never seen before is the Ropp Locarno 8766 stamp on the underside of the shank, and a Retailer A La Civette mark Paris on the side of the shank. I can find no reference to Lorenzo making pipes for Ropp, and even if they did would both Company stamps be on the Briar. The pipe was bought by the collector who lived in Paris, so the Retailers name is expected. The pipe is a lovely lightly smoked slightly bent Billiard, the shank and stem half rounded underneath, with a 1/2 Hexagon angular top. The Briar is Lorenzo Orange stained with some lovely graining, and very flaw-free compared to the average Lorenzo. The saddle stem has the Lorenzo logo, is non-filter but has a Stinger, and some vry light tooth chatter. A VERY UNUSUAL PIPE!!!

The bowl needed little reaming but was cleansed anyway, the stem was sanitized and then the whole pipe was lightly polished and waxed to give the lovely finish you can see in the photos. The pipe draws and will smoke perfectly, sits beautifully in the hand, light and balanced. Would love to hear from anyone who can explain the double Stamping!!!!........Thanks for looking and as usual I will combine postage if you buy more than one of my items from this sale.
