Very rare Drialys Rico Habano perfume bottle & shagreen box 1930s Art Deco Cuba:
$150.00

Here is an exceedingly rare perfume bottle: Rico Habano, a Tobacco-scented fragrance introduced in 1930 by Drialys, a Cuban company. According to what little informationI\'m able to find online,Drialys, also spelled as Drialis, was founded in Havana in the 1920s.

This is a fantastic find for serious collectors of rare perfume bottles, Art Deco items,or Cuban antiques and collectibles.

The square bottle has atriangular goldtone cap set at one corner. This Art Decotype of shapeis reminiscent of the brightly colored square bottlesusedby a perfume company calledYbry, and I suspect that Drialys made this bottlein a similardesignbecause of that. The square Ybry bottle was patented in 1925, just a few years before Rico Habano\'s release.

This bottle was a preowned estate find that belonged to someone here in the Pacific Northwest who had many bottles of old perfume from the early to mid-1900s. It was still in its original cellophane-sealed box when I acquired it. I removed the cellophane only to examine the bottle and photograph it. Due to age, most the perfume had already evaporated, even though it had never been opened. About 1/2 teaspoon of perfume remains. The cap is firmly stuck shut, but I can nonethelesscatch a whiff of the Tobacco fragrance, which is lovely.

Thecardboard boxlid is covered in what appears to be shagreen leather. I am not able to identify the animal hide.It may have been a reptile. The leatheris dark brown and pink, and it has a very rough, scratchy texture.

The bottle is 2 and 3/8ths inches X 2 and 3/8ths inches X 13/16ths of an inch. The metal cap has some tarnish. I see no maker\'s mark on the bottle, only an embossed registration number, 818642. The colorful foil labeldepicts Tobacco leaves above the Drialys and Rico Habano name.

The presentation box is 3.5 inches X 1 and5/16ths inches at the base. Itstands 3 and 3/8ths inches tall. The front of the box bears a label that matches the bottle.
