Antique Snuff Box made from a Mussel Shell
Lovely about little antique piece, from the 19th century. These little snuff boxes were made by adding metal trim to the edges of matching shells to create a box that can be opened and closed. Many were made with fancy silver decoration.
I think this one is made of brass, I cannot find any marks on the metal. The shell box is hinged in the back and has a little clasp in the front. It opens and closes easily and the natural decoration on the shell is beautiful. In very nice antique condition.
The little snuff box measures about 2.5\" long and is about 1.5\" deep.
