Victorian 19thc Casket Box Gothic Reliquary in Cast Brass by Adolph Frankau & Co:

A highly decorative and impressive 19th century cast brass casket or box. As you can see the design is Gothic revival, with religious scene panels in relief, reminiscent of medieval reliquary caskets. I have taken photos all round, which clearly show the discolouration and age patination. The brass would polish up bright, if desired. To the base there is a mark for Adolph Frankau & Co, 121 Queen Victoria Street, London, manufacturers and merchants, who manufactured several designs during the 1880\'s. Around 1860 to 1880 there was a resurgence in all things Gothic. The box measures 11 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and stands a fraction over 3 inches high. One of the back hinges has detached and needs attention. I do not have a key for the box and looking at the lock, there may have originally been a metal clasp (please see image). Ideal for display, especially in an antique setting. Great for storing candles. It would also be a wonderful jewellery casket.
