This is a stunning Victorian era Marquise shape ring on 9 carat rose gold with Victorian glass paste Diamonds and Sapphire paste set in a silver setting.Paste stones were frequently used in 9 carat gold jewllery during the late Victorian early Edwardian period. It is not fully hallmarked so accurate dating is not possible, but it is my opinion that due to the materials and the design that this is a period ring, during the early part of the 20th century platinum started to be used for the setting of Gems before this they were set into silver as in this case, but this is not guaranteed and you should look at the photographs carefully and do your own research. The ring is marked 9ct on the inner band and with makers mark WW Ld.This ring has a deep rich colour to the central oval cut Paste Sapphire which is surrounded with 25 round old cut Paste Diamonds.The central Paste Oval Sapphire is approx 7mm x 5mm or approx .75 carat. The Paste Diamonds are approx 2mm in diameter and there are 25 in total. All measurements are given as approximate due to the contratints of measuring the stones within their settings. The stones are in excellent condition for their age, but it should be remembered that this item is not brand new and will show signs of wear which is expected from an antique item. The entire setting measures 85mmx 23mm approx.
