Description

Dated c.1871 elegant antique English Silver sweetmeat basket. There are 2 parts - the silver pedestal foot reticulated/pierced basket and the cobalt glass liner. Front cartouche is free of monogram. Swing arm \'rope\' handle.

SIZE: Stands approximately 4 1/8\" tall to the top of the bowl and about 6 1/2\" with the basket arm in the up position. Top rim diameter of about 4 3/4\". Total weight (silver and glass together) is about 367.4 grams. Weight is just the silver basket (w/o glass) is about 159 grams. Has a substantial feel when held.

MARKS: On back side of silver basket ~ JB in conjoined circles (possibly James Beebe), Lion Passant (sterling silver standard), uncrowned leopard head (city mark for London), date code for 1871, I believe (Gothic looking lower case \'q\'- bottom portion is worn) and duty mark head of Queen Victoria (1838-1890). There is what appears to be another small stamp or hallmark on the foot which I can not make out. All the hallmarks have some wear, so please look at the photos and judge for yourself.

CONDITION: Antique item. Just a few minuscule nicks seen with 25x magnification on the cobalt rim. Otherwise, no problems. Given its age, it is super clean!
