Beautiful Victorian Solid Silver Gilt Sampson Mordan Double Ended Scent & Smelling Salts Bottle London 1870
A truly stunning Victorian solid silver gilt double ended scent and smelling salts bottle made by the highly collectable silversmith Sampson Mordan. Stamped to both ends forSM and fully hallmarked for London 1870. One end of the bottle has a hinged cover and would have been used for scent. This has his patented flip back design so that when you press the stud at the front the cover not only opens but flips fully back. The other end has a screw top and was used for smelling salts. Both caps are engraved with a \"H\". The bottle has a faceted green glass body which was the rarest of all colours used by Sampson Mordan. The gilt is in excellent condition but there is a dink in each end, although this does not detract from the value of the piece. The glass bottle is perfect. Very unusually the bottle comes in its original moulded presentation case for the retailer W. Johnson of Threadneedle Street, Royal Exchange, London. The case is in excellent condition. This piece would have been owned by someone of great wealth and will make an excellent addition to any collection. A piece that can only increase in value.
