Offered hereis a Victorian-Era retractable magicpencil which bears the manufacturer\'s name PEARL. As it has a ring on the top, this item could haveserved asa watch fob oras a piece intended for attachment to a chatelaine.The pencil nozzle advances and withdraws as intended by design. The instrument is partially metallic and partially mother-of-pearl. With no mark appearing on the instrument as to the metal content, I am suggesting that it ismost likelygold fill.
As seen in Scan #1,in the advanced position, theinstrument measures approximately3 1/4\" in length. The surfaceexhibits extremely limited wear, with the metal portionbearing a highly-ornate design. Nocracks,chips, dents,or scratchesare noted on either the metallic or mother-of-pearl surfaces.No evidence of oxidationor brassing is present. Scan #2 shows the pencil nozzlefully withdrawn; Scan #3 shows the single line of imprint that reads, \" PEARL PAT. DEC. 5. 71. \". No lead is present,and I am unable to determine what would be the size ofreplacement lead. On the upper metal section on the opposite side fromthe imprint is an small indicia which has not been personalized.
As is the case with all of the vintage writing instrumentsI offer for offerding,thispencilwas recently acquired at a localestate sale.Given this information providedabove, the pencil isbeing sold \"as-is\".Please review the scans carefully.
