Very nice church door religious relief carving. This piece was purchased by a well travelled man (confirmed by people who know him) in1975 from Cortez Antiques - 1043 Mabini, Ermita, Manila Philippines.His present home down in South Alabama is short of being a museum. The church was believed to have been located in the Northern Philippine islands, possibly Mindanao.At latest datesfrom the 1700\'s, possibly as early as the 1600\'s. Ibelieve it is Catholic related (St Mary). Maybe someone out there knows more about its markings. It iscarved out of a Molave tree, also known as \"Iron Wood\". Almost feels and weighs like iron but definitely wood. It weighs approx. 26 lbs.,measures just over 24 1/2\" tall, approx. 21 2/4\" wide, and approx. 2\" deep.
A true work of art and an awesome piece of religious history. My mind runs wild thinking ofwho came into contact with it and how old it is. Maybe General MacArthur in WWII??? Who knows. Really hate to sell it but needing to now concentrate on retirement money. Please don\'t hesitate on making your best offer!
