Baby Peggy, child actress, the silent screen darling from the 1920\'s. Several doll versions were made by Louis Amberg in bisque and composition. The composition Baby Peggy dolls came with molded hair or mohair wigs. They had the same facial molding however the wigged version looked to the right while the molded hair version looked to the left. Both are quite hard to find but the wigged version is quite rare. She may look a bit rough but this gal is the rare wigged Baby Peggy doll. She measures 20\" tall. Her head and arms are composition while body and legs are cloth. Her body is softly stuffed while legs are firm and probably sawdust stuffed. She has a crier in her body but it no longer works. She has brown painted eyes and a smiling mouth with four painted teeth. She is a nice resemblance to the child star.
Her body is heavily soiled with staining. It is torn in the back by the crier, small tear back of leg, tiny/small holes in feet and/or legs, opened seams in arms, and areas where the tie wire wore through. Wig is well worn with very little remaining. Overall the composition on her face is nice with no crazing. There is some spots of missing surface paint on the right cheek and bottom of left eye. Rub to the tip of the nose and paint chipping to the upper left ear. Facial features retain most of their original paint with light wear to upper lips, eyelashes and eyebrows. Her arms have cracking, pitting wear and missing paint. Tip of right thumb chipped. She will need work and repairs but once done she would be an amazing addition to any doll collection!
