You are looking at a rare and unique 1930\'s era Shure Brothers model 3-A carbon microphone. This was a very common design for it\'s time and it comes with the period Bud Radio stand. This classic style of microphone was made by several American companies before disappearing altogether around the late 1930\'s.
This spring mic is in very good physical condition considering it\'s age as seen in the pictures provided. The chrome plated 3-A model element shows lite signs of wear in the form of small scratches and pitting but has been thoroughly cleaned. It has all of it\'s original components and looks pretty good overall but I don\'t know how to properly wire this mic so I really have no idea if there is any output at all? I would rate this mic an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 -10.
The ring that supports the element is a thick, sturdy design that is cast iron. It\'s certainly original to the mic though and it screws onto the desk stand.
The stand gives the mic a nice period look and provides a very stable platform. It\'s quite heavy, thick and solid with the 4 tier waterfall design. You\'ll notice there is very little wear on the original paint for both the ring and stand. Just a couple tiny chips on the bottom of the base where it makes contact with the surface. Total height with the stand and mic is appx 12 inches. The ring diameter is actually 6 inches across.
The actual Shure 3-A element is 2 1/2 inches across. Total weight with mic and stand is appx 3 and 1/2 pounds. The springs appear to be old but I doubt they are original as you very rarely see these spring mics with authentic springs.
If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She\'ll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office.
