Vintage 1940s Matchbook Covers Plus Frames Lillians Tavern Eagle Wine Bar Art :

These two versatile and collectible original matchbookcovers, without strikers or matches, appear to be from the 1940’s and featureart with complementary colors and similar tavern and liquor themes. They’represented loose on acid free paper in matching basic brown frames. The 5” x 7”frames, can be hung up(perhaps behind the bar) or they can stand with attachedkickstands. But we left the two original matchbook covers free and unattached,held in place only by pressure, soa buyer can use them any way they likein their own collection.

These 2 decorative original vintage matchbook have artworkin warm shades including green, gold, brown, red and yellow. One matchbook, witha logo of a patriotic looking eagle, reads “When in Need of Wines, Liquors orBeer call Eagle; Eagle Wines and Liquors”.

The other vintage matchbook reads, “Take Me to Lillian’sTavern” and “Dine and Dance” along with the tavern’s address in Mount,Virginia. The artwork depicts a flirtatious, yet lost-looking, blonde in a reddress on a green background. She perched atop a steamer trunk holding aparasol, with a show of shapely legs- a beguiling image hearkening back to abygone era.

Condition: As shown in the photos, these matchbook coversare readable and attractive, but they do show patina, age and usage. Thematches and strikers have been removed from both these covers, taking off alittle length. And when we gently removed the matchbooks in this collection fromthe brittle paper they’d been mounted on for years, it left imperfect areas onsome of their backsides, but no thinning or rips.
