For sale:
Vintage 50\'s Gibson Les Paul inlay set for Standard, Goldtop, ES & SG. We only have a few sets of these inlay remaining.
We wanted to experiment for our buyers sake & compare this set against modern inlays by Gibson®. So, we ordered the modern set from 3 leading vendors & our findings are as followed:
⚫️The original vintage inlays are a tiny hair smaller than the Re-Issue inlays.
⚫️ The shape/contour is slightly different, less extreme taper.
⚫️The original vintage inlays are significantly thicker (20%)
The coolest thing found on these inlays (aside from the quality) is the jeweler scroll saw wear you can see around perimeter of inlay. True hand cut inlay. With that said, all vintage inlays are close to the same shape but can vary ever so slightly. This is a good example of differences in modern machine cut versus hand cut.
They don\'t appear to be worn or shrunken too much. They do not appear to have been installed. Stored in a vintage Gibson strings paper bag.
