Description

Deliciously frothy, wonderfully elegant vintage 1960s wedding or prom gown from the incomparable Mike Benet. This asymmetrical, one-shoulder gown is at once sweet and chic, and bound to make any bride or prom girl the belle of the ball. Fitted bodice is comprised of organza over taffeta and features three rows of quarter-inch-wide yellow satin ribbon appliquéd diagonally all the way around and a fourth row straight across at the waistline. Pretty organza flutter sleeve is also decorated with ribbon.

Huge, full skirt has a taffeta base, followed by a layer of organza with a 7-inch wide ruffle at the hem. Over that is another layer of organza—this one beautifully asymmetrical and decorated with rows and rows of appliquéd yellow ribbon. Gorgeous from every angle.

Underneath it all is the prettiest tiered white tulle crinoline.

When we discovered this treasure, it was in one of those boxes meant to preserve it, and the process was successful. It is in near-new condition with a couple of minor flaws: There are a couple of scuff marks on both the taffeta and organza near the hem, the seam one the ruffle at the hem has come open and there are a couple of small tears in the crinoline near the hem, where no doubt our bride got her pretty stiletto heel caught while she ran through a cascade of thrown rice. As you can see, neither of these detracts from the beauty or wearability of this dress, but we strive to be accurate in all of our descriptions.

*Note: While the tag in this dress reads Size 14, it\'s important to note that vintage sizes are not consistent with modern ones and tend to run one to two sizes larger. This dress is probably closer to a modern Size 8 or 10, but please refer to the measurements below for proper fit.

Vintage sizes are NOT consistent with modern ones.
They generally run one or two sizes smaller—so it’s important to use the measurements provided, and not the sizetag, as a guide to ensure proper fit. For a good fit, add one or two inches to your body’s measurements, or more if the garment is meant to fit loosely.

We take our measurements from seam to seam with the garment lying flat, relaxed and unstretched.
We then double those measurements for bust, waist, and hips. Unless otherwise noted, overall length of the garment and sleeve length are measured from shoulder seam to hem. Items larger than our Size 4-6 mannequin or model may be clipped for proper fit, which we note in our product description.

A good way to determine if a garment will fit you is to measure one you already own that fits you well.

That means they’ve been worn and loved by someone else. Most vintage and pre-owned pieces—even those that were rarely or never worn—will show some signs of wear. Noticeable wear, flaws or damage are always disclosed to the best of our knowledge.

We accept returns only if we\'ve made an error in our listing.
Because we’ve carefully measured each item and provided detailed information about how to use those measurements to ensure that a garment will fit you, we do not accept returns for items that don’t fit.

To be eligible for a refund:

Please contact us as soon as you take delivery of your item to receive authorization for return.
Mail the item in the same condition in which it was received and, if possible, in the packaging in which it was sent.
Postmark within three days of receipt and send us, via , the delivery confirmation number. Your funds will be returned once we’ve received your item and confirmed that it is in the same condition in which it was sent to you.
