Vintage 1980\'s Pink & Gray WOLF/COYOTE Fetish by EDNA LEKI (d) old ZUNI Indian Description

Offered here is a very nice older Wolf or Coyote Fetish carving by Native American Zuni Pueblo Artisan: Edna Leki (d. 2003). Edna is the daughter of Teddy Weahkee and mother of Lena Boone. Edna created many fine carvings and fetish bowls in her lifetime. This carving dates from about 1982 and was originally purchased at a Trading Post in Clines Corners, New Mexico.

This personable fetish is carved from an attractive pink, gray and white stone with some black highlights. We think the stone is either Rhodonite or Rhodocrosite. The medicine bundle is composed of a \"gold lip\" Mother of Pearl arrowhead, red coral and turquoise beads and heishi shell beads. This piece has the cutest face with slightly offset eyes and crooked little smile. One of the nostril holes merges into the smile. The eyes, nose and mouth appears to have been originally blackened possibly with tar but some of that has worn away with age.

Be sure to take a look at our wide selection of Zuni fetishes and other Native American items.

SIZE: This carving measures just about 3&1/2 inches long. It\'s just under 1&1/2 inches high at the medicine bundle and up to 1/2 of an inch wide.

The photos are highly magnified, so please look at the photos of the fetish with a quarter and a hand to get an idea of the scale and size.

CONDITION: Used, very nice vintage condition from around 1982.

AUTHENTICITY: This is an authentic Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico (USA). The piece is not signed which is typical for this artist. A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) card from Desert Designs/silverstarshop will be included with purchase.

ATTRIBUTES: In Zuni tradition, each animal has specific characteristics and powers that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal. The coyote is the master trickster and represents laughter, humor and foolishness.
The wolf is the teacher, pathfinder, and sharer of knowledge on the never ending journey.
