This is truly an amazing piece of folk art and is in such good condition forsomething of this nature and age. Please enlarge the photos soyou can see the meticulous and painstaking work that must have gone intocreating this masterpiece. The background, the water and sky, are painted probably with water colors onto what appears to be a board; and all the remaining details areproduced by arranging layer upon layer of bark and moss. There arefour \"frames\", the outermost one black painted wood and the one inside that a creation of broken pieces of cork.

There are some brown stain marks on the white layer of \"framing\" and thepaint on the top left (sky) and in a couple of smaller random areasis worn. There is very little, if any, loss to the natural materials. The back of the frameis shabby andold looking, but secure, and has a lot of tape repairing tears. It is marked\"Made in Japan\".

The 89 year oldlady from whom I purchased the piece gave me its history. Shesaid it belonged to a nun who rented a room in her parents\' home when she was a child and when she decidedto leave the order gave the painting to her parents.

This is a pre-owned piece being sold as described, as is. I cannot guarantee that it has not been exposed to odors: smoking, fragrance, cooking, mustiness, mothballs, other types of storage odors or pets.
