Vintage Anri Chess Set - Space Age Universum -Italy - By Arthur Elliot

This sale is for a Universum ChessSet by Arthur Elliott for Anri of Italy. It is a mid-century modern chess set thatis hand crafted of solid Alpine Maple wood. One half being a natural tonefinish and the other a darker brown finish and all have felt lined bottoms (unweighted).They are unusual and intricate; fun to handle and use; a stylish minimalistdesign resembling space ships! The set is complete with all 32 pieces in itsoriginal \"anri\" tough hard cardboard box in brown box.

I bought this set brand new in Nuremberg,Germany in 1968. I used it very lightly a handful of times, but it has not beenout of the box in the past 35 years. There are a few light scratches of a fewof the pieces and the felt on the bottom of some of the pieces has deterioratedsomewhat. I would rate this set as 95 on a scale of 1 to 100. The box isslightly shopworn due to storage. Please review my pictures carefully toconfirm condition.

Like many of the other listings state,this is the Anri Space age chess set from 1958, made in Italy and designed byArthur Elliot. Mr. Elliot worked as an animator for Walt Disney Studios andlater designed luxury goods, such as this chess set. This is an interesting piecefor any Disney or Chess set collector, especially since it includes theoriginal box.
