Vintage/Antique Brown & White No. 6 (6 Gal) Stoneware Crock with Lid:
$28.00

13-1/8”diameter x 13” high without lid; lid adds about 1-1/4” height

Ibelieve this style of vintage crock is for pickeling/fermenting, asthe lid does not have an opening for a butter churn.

Althoughthe lid covers the opening and cannot slip into the crock, it doesnot have a good fit (seems a bit small), so I\'m not sure if this lidwas actually designed for this crock or not, but the color certainlymatches. Lid has a hairline crack that extends from the outer edgeand goes a few inches toward the center (see photo). Lid handle hasa missing chip on the \'inner\' edge. The crock itself doesn\'t haveany cracks or chips.,but the bottom edge is characteristically \'worn\'for a vintage item. I\'ve seen other crocks that appear to be thesame or similar advertised as having salt-glazing. I\'m notknowledgeable enough to make that claim, and I\'m skeptical about thatsince the finish seems too smooth/uniform, and lacks the \'orangepeel\' effect of salt glazing. Glazing on the inside of the crock is\'swirly\' from dark brown to lighter brown (drip glaze?), less uniformthan the outside glazing. Spots on the back of the crock (the sideopposite to the number 6 marking) are within the glaze... not recentspills.

Overthe 30 or so years that I\'ve owned this crock, it has not been usedfor any liquid storage; rather, it\'s been a decorative container formy yarns.
