This unique piece was produced by the world famous ZSOLNAY CERAMIC FACTORY of Hungary, that was founded by Miklos Zsolnay (1800-1880) in 1853.
His son Vilmos Zsolnay (1828-1900) joined the operation in 1863 and made the factory into the world famous ceramic firm we know today.Luckily for the US based art collectors, rare Zsolnay pieces are usually undervalued in the US, compared to the UK, French and other European markets. Its material is commonly called \"porcelain faience\" but according to experts for this piece the more accurate term is \"riolith porcelain.\"It is from the Zsolnay production period of \"Folklorism - Historicism - Victorian Eclecticism\" (1868 - 1897). It belongs to the \"Historicism\" sub-category.AS THE PICTURE (#4): Blue \"5 Churches - Zsolnay Pecs\" stamp on the bottom with triple Zsolnay family member initials: T.J.M. (stands for Terez, Julia and Miklos. They were the 3 children of Vilmos, working in the family owned business.)Pressed Form Number: \"Zsolnay Pecs 1511 \".......... therefore it is ca year 1885. ( the form number is pressed into the clear glaze only, therefore it does not show show up well on the picture. However it can be clearly seen with the naked eye)Though it can not be stated for sure but it is highly likely that it is a piece by the famous designer Tade Sikorski. Mr Sikorski was the husband of Julia Zsolnay, His well liked ?signature? pattern was the ?honeycomb?, just like my piece has at the neck. It resonates with other pieces that were designed by him. This vase was given to me as a gift from a Hungarian friend of mine?s private collection. It is approximately 132 years old and in excellent condition compared to its age.
