The piece was made by the Assante tribein Ghana Africa, the pattern for the carving of the post is very rare anddetailed, the carving is symmetrical and obviouslydone for someoneof great importance by a very skilled carver, thestoolis used and has typical condition issues.

The Africans that produced these stools believed that the soul of the owner resided inside and only the owner was allowed to sit on the stool, when not in use it would be sat on itsedge to avoid someone unwittingly sitting on the stool and stealing the soul of the owner. It is in original condition and has not been altered, repaired or refinished.
