This Electronic Bernina 801 Sport sews just as beautifully today as it did when it was made in 1985. With 5 needle positions, 7 stitches (utility and decorative), and a powerful DC motor, this little workhorse can tackle any sewing job you might have. It is a free-arm machine, but slide-on tables are available on and other sites. This model was one of the Swiss-made all metal machines that are so hard to find now. It is quiet and doesn\'t vibrate, so you can use it even on a tv tray if your space is limited. It takes the \"old-style\" Bernina feet (or an adapter with generic snap-on feet).
The serial number for this particular machine is 25026610.The foot pedal is the one that came with the machine--same serial number. You can tell how the machine has been maintained by looking at the great condition of the foot pedal.
I was able to purchase a few of these at an sale at a school. They were used a couple of months a year in a home economics class. They have been WELL maintained. Being a Bernina LOVER, I couldn\'t resist (even though I didn\'t have room for another machine). As both an electrician AND advanced seamstress, I felt comfortable tackling whatever problems the machine might have.I put it through the paces to make sure that everything worked as it should. It sews beautifully except for the manual buttonhole. For some reason it doesn\'t want to adjust properly so that the left side of the buttonhole is the same as the right side. If you are a quilter or don\'t need a machine that makes buttonholes, this would be a great machine for classes or to take to group meetings. Because it is smaller than the average sewing machines available today (only 14\" wide), it is perfect for a dorm room or small apartment. It has a fixed handle and weighs about 18 lbs.--really easy to transport. The cover protects it from dust and looks very nice.

I am checking each machine by using it on a project that I am working on myself. (I wouldn\'t do that if I had doubts about the quality.) I took this particular machine to a sewing group meeting and made adult bibs for nursing homes. I had NO problems with anything. Each machine will be priced independently depending on the condition.
There are a few small nicks in the paint, and some of the knobs are a bit stained. There are some other spots (mostly on the sewing arm) that show normal wear from the movement of fabric (and hands) across the surface. There is NO abnormal damage--just normal wear-and-tear from 32 years of use. What you see in each picture is what you get with that particular option. The bobbin winds evenly and the stitches don\'t skip. Like I said, the 5-step manual button hole doesn\'t sew out well. For that reason, I am offering this machine with several options.
