Vintage Beautiful Pair Mappin & Webb Sterling Dishes With King & Queen 1936:

This is a very nice pair of Mappinand Webb sterling silver dishes. They are very well made with great detail oncenter portraits of King George VI &Queen Elizabeth of England. They measure approx 4” inches across and close to1” inch high, very thick and heavy weighing 4.9 ounces each or about 10 ouncestotal. Both dishes are in great vintage condition. There is a very small dingon the bottom rim of the Kings dish, but this doesn’t detract from the beautyof the piece.(please see pics) They are both hallmarked Mn & Wb for Mappin& Webb with Lion Passant, Anchor for Birmingham, and letter M dating theseto 1936. Not quite sure what they were used for, possibly ring or pin dishes.They are apparently rare, as I have never seen another set like them. Thesewould be a great addition for any Royal, English Silver or Mappin & Webbcollection.

Mappin & Webb was founded inSheffield, England in about 1774. The company is a noted firm of silversmithswho is still in business today as a retail jeweler and Royal Warrant Holder.
