Vintage CHESTER IMP Brass Door Knocker-Unusual Novelty, Grotesque

This is anunusual vintage small cast brass door knocker, with the striker in the form of the Chester Imp figure crouching on a plinth with \'CHESTER IMP\' impressed underneath. The striker plate has a wreath or garland at the top, andhas two small screw holes for fixing to the door.

(The original Chester Imp is a medieval stone carving \'grotesque\' Imp or Devil in Chester Cathedral in the north west of England. According to legend the Imp, or Devil, was carved during the construction of the cathedral as a warning to the Devil to stay away.)

Theknocker is in good vintage condition and the hinge is secure. It has a goodpatina, but could be polished up if preferred.
