Estate sale find, vintage Golden Chain Council Highway Map of The Northern & Southern Mines. This is the harder to find large wall map version (35" X 43.5") from the 1950-1960's, printed by Creative Lithograph, Oakland California.
Several vignettes along the edges of depicting mining operations during the Gold Rush along with descriptions of the various mining communities of the Sierra Foothills,
nice graphics, great display piece.
Delineation & Cartography by William Wintle (1911-1970) - Wintle immigrated to Oakland in 1929, in 1952 he moved to Volcano, CA and was instrumental in restoring the little ghost town. He was co-owner of the Cobblestone Gallery there and specialized in scenes of the Mother Lode country.
The pictorial map is approximately 35" wide and 43.5" tall, approximate shipping weight: 2.5 pounds.
The map is in overall Fair - Good Minus condition with several condition issues, edge chipping and closed tears (repaired on verso with archival Filmoplast), small area with holes, damp staining along edges, soiling, would frame up nicely, please see images.
