Beautifully preserved vintage French Catholic Scapular medal made of Sterling silver c. early 1900s. The medal is lightly worn out as result of devotional wearing, and is covered with the original, uncleaned dark silver patina.
The medal is double sided.
One side bears an image of Jesus Christ giving His blessing with His right hand, and pointing to His open, Sacred Heart with His left hand.
This side bears the \"800\" sterling silver hallmark, and two additional marks with a symbol of the Cross.
The other side depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary with Child Jesus as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The inscription within the right side bottom edge the image reads: \"LASSERRE\" indicating the French maker Firmin-Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943).
The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Catholic sacramental associted with promises of Our Lady\'s special intersession for the salvation of a devoted person wearing the Scapular.
The Scapular Medal was introduced in 1910 by Pope St. Pius X. The medal may be substituted in most cases for any other cloth scapulars.
