Vintage Chinese cast iron Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) figure, with serene downcast expression, dressed in flowing robes and standing on a lotus base. The face and draped ribbon of fabric in front both appear to be cast in bronze. 13” high, base 5 1/4” diameter. Weighs over 3 lbs. Possibly Republic period (early 20th century) as it appears to have survived beheading during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The head has been re-attached, but the repair is barely visible (see enlargement).
