This item is a one-of-a-kind, vintage, handcrafted Peking lacquer ware box, ornamented by flowers and details in red against a vivid dark black background and a black interior with a gloss finish. The piece is approximately 4.5 inches at its longest and 3 inches across with about 2 inches as it\'s depth. The item includes a wonderful storing case complete with intricate design of satin like red fabric ornamented in paisley design to protect and preserve this incredible piece of art that is a must need item for anyone who finds beauty in the Peking carving tradition. \"Peking Lacquer Ware is the traditional art craft, by carving landscapes, bird-flowers and human figures on the molded body of an article, which is coated with relatively thick layers of lacquer. As far back as the Han Dynasty, lacquer ware were scotched with streaks in the form of clouds or running water. Ever since the Tang and Sung dynasties, this art as been handed down one generation after another and is becoming more and more popular on account of its unique style characterized by beautiful figuration, brilliant colors, classicality and elegance, until now where it has become a traditional Chinese art and craft.

The process involved in carved lacquerware are very complicated. In general copper is used for making the internal body; sometimes wood is used. From 80 to 150 layers of lacquer have to be daubed, followed by design tracing, carving, burnishing and other procedures, and require several months and sometimes over year to produce one article.

Carved lacquerware can include screens, vases, various descriptions, jars, table screens, wall panels, bookends, fruit boxes, smoking sets, jewelry caskets etc; totaling several scores of varieties.\"
