Thatched Cottage is from the early days of Department 56 and charming in its simplicity. Of my vast collection, this was always one of my favorites because it seemed to tell a story. It features a rustic thatched roof, two chimneys, timber trim, two doors, and latticed windows. One corner shows the plaster fallen away to reveal the brick underpinning. It is part of the Dickens’ Cottages Set of 3. None of the buildings in that set had names stamped on the bottom. Thatched Cottage has been well-loved and displayed, but it is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or repairs that I could find. This is a hand-painted piece, thus there may be normal imperfections and variations in coloring. It comes with its original box & sleeve. The name on the sleeve is “Dickens’ Village Cottage”, but the D56 source books always refer to this piece as “Thatched Cottage”. They are one and the same. I invite you to look at all the photos to appreciate the character and detail of this piece. I provide lots of pictures, including close-ups, and am up front about any damage or flaws I find, so you will know exactly what you are getting.
