The History

This beautiful pair of earrings are very well made in style and structure, surely a designer pair of earrings.

Modernist jewelers in the United States began practicing their craft in the 1930s. These jewelers were pretty emphatic about their rejection of the styles that had come before them. Victorian Jewelry was dismissed as too decorative, Art Nouveau pieces were deemed too fussy, and the Art Deco aesthetic was considered excessively rigid. Modernist jewelers felt they had more in common with painters, sculptors, and other modern artists of the day. Their ambitious goal was to create one-of-a-kind works of art that people could wear.

The earrings are marked \"925\" for metal purity and \"S.\" This \"S\" could represent the maker, I was unable to find any information on it. One of the earrings has a slight curve to it when you look at it from the side. This is hardly noticeable.

The Piece

These beautiful Modern earrings feature cushion cut Amethyst and marquise cut Aquamarine gemstones. The Amethyst sits in a square bezel setting at the bottom of the earrings. The stones are a beautiful deep royal purple. The Aquamarine dangles in a marquise shaped bezel in the open center of the triangle motif. These gemstones are a wonderful light blue color. All of the stones in the earrings are faceted and reflect light gorgeously.

The earrings are crafted out of solid sterling silver. There is a somewhat geometric feel to the design of these earrings. The anchor at the top is a puffy, three dimensional inverted triangle accent. The rest of the motif below this is dangling and mobile. The thick bezel setting containing the Amethyst gemstones has line work to accentuate a \"square within a square\" design.

The earrings measure slightly under 1 and 3/4\" tall by just under 7/8\" wide. The Amethyst stones have an approximate measurement of 1/4\" wide by just under 1/4\" tall. The Aquamarine measures 3/8\" tall by 1/8\" wide. The design includes posts for pierced ears as well as backings to keep the earrings secure.
