From the estate of a journalist, deceased in 1996, who began to write about Hollywood in 1932 as a visiting foreign correspondent and, after WWII, covered it exclusively as editor of the Hollywood Foreign Department of the United Press from 1945 until 1969.

This is a late-1940s to early-50s Vase made by DeMaray which was a brand name conjured up by California’s M & L Manufacturing who for reasons known only to themselves didn’t want to put M & L Manufacturing on any of their potteries. A bit of a mystery, that. It’s one of the oldest things I can remember from my parents’ house back when I was growing up. As you see in the pix, it is cylindrical, salmon-pink in color and has gold rings around it. The approximate dimensions in inches are as follows: 7-3/4h x 4-7/8OD x 4-5/8ID. The second pic shows what’s on the bottom of the vase: the name DeMaray and the number 634 which I can only guess is a style number. The salmon-pink color was big back in the late-1940s to early-50s; I remember the original drapes in the house my parents bought in 1952 were almost exactly the same color. Funny the things one remembers from so long ago.

If you happen to live in the Los Angeles area, come on by and pick it up in person and the USPS postage charge (which I personally consider inflated, unethical and lousy) will be waived. Just drop me an email.
