Found at an estate sale, this lovely original oil painting by Emery Walton shows a tranquil summertime forest landscape with a placid stream. It\'s signed by the artist in the lower left corner. The frame is 27.5\" x 31\" and the canvas is 20\" x 24\". A label on the back of the canvas certifies that this is an original oil painting from Artistic Interiors and has a certification number of 482596. As unfortunately is so often the case at estate sales, I wasn\'t able to find out anything about this painting\'s age or history. The back of the canvas is a uniform light brown, which is often an indication of considerable age. However, the certification number would seem to be a recent one. I haven\'t been able to find out anything about Emery Walton other than that he was known for his serene, tranquil landscapes.

This painting is attractively framed in a 27.5\" x 31.25\" x 1.5\" solid wood frame. I would describe this landscape as having museum-quality framing because of the wooden wedges or keys at the corners of the stretcher bars to allow adjusting the tension of the canvas in response to humidity. The frame has acquired a number of scuffs, scratches, and small dents over the years, most of them inconspicuous. The bottom right corner of the fabric inner border is slightly foxed as well. The painting itself is in very good condition (see photos). This framed painting weighs 6 lbs. 10 oz., which is relatively light for its size.
