1954 Vintage Florence Ceramics Hand Painted Young Lady Figurine named Victoria with Bonnet. Hand painted gloss glazed Burgundy Love Seat with Gold detailing and an Lovely ivory with gold detailing. It has the gold Florence Ceramics Pasadena Califorina Copyright logo, and name Victoria in the mold on the bottom of the figurine. She is in excellent condition with no flaws I can see. Measures approximately 8.25 x 7" and can be found in The Complete Book of Florence Ceramics A Labor of Love Collectors Book on page 89. The grand pannier c. 1856-1859. Panniers circulated in and out of the latter eighteenth to mid nineteenth centuries with more grace than the actual apparel itself. A pannier was originally an eighteenth century oval hoop worn under skirts to produce the fashionable hip extensions. It eventually evolved into a crinoline pannier which was probably not as unwieldy. In the decade of 1850s dresses continued to broaden thus the very large grand pannier was used. In 1856, a pundit in England worried that it "might become necessary to widen all the public walkways." By 1857, a silk dressnow neededup to eighteen yards of material! Florence faithfully recreates the enormously wide skirts of the 1850s. Victoria is lovely in a very grand dress.
