HISTORY OF QUILTING:
The word \"quilt\" comes from theLatinculcitameaning a stuffed sack, but it came into theEnglish languagefrom theFrenchwordcuilte.[1]The origins of quilting remain unknown, but sewing techniques of piecing, applique, and quilting have been used for clothing and furnishings in diverse parts of the world for several millennia.

The earliest known quilted garment is depicted on the carved ivory figure of aPharaohof the EgyptianFirst Dynasty, about 3400 B.C.

In 1924 archaeologists discovered a quilted floor covering inMongolia. They estimated its date as between 100 BC to 200 AD. There are numerous references to quilts in literature and inventories of estates.Crusadersbrought quilted objects from theMiddle Eastto Europe in the late 11th century. Quilted garments known asgambesonswere popular in the EuropeanMiddle Ages.Knightswore them under their armor for comfort and sometimes as an outer garment to protect the metal armor from the weather. The earliest known surviving European bed quilt is from late 14th century Sicily. It is made of linen and padded with wool. The blocks across the center are scenes from the legend ofTristan. The quilt is 122\" by 106\" and is in theVictoria and Albert MuseuminLondon.[2]

Quilting has been part of the needlework tradition in Europe from about the 5th century CE. Early objects contain Egyptian cotton, which may indicate that Egyptian and Mediterranean trade provided a conduit for the technique. Quilted objects were relatively rare in Europe until approximately the 12th century, when quilted bedding and other items appeared after the return of the Crusaders from the Middle East. The medieval quilted gambeson,aketonandarming doublet[3]were garments worn under, or instead of, armor ofmailleorplate armor. These developed into the later quilteddoubletworn as part of fashionable European male clothing from the 14th to 17th century. Quilting clothing began to be generally used in the 14th century, with quilted doublets and armor worn inFrance,Germany, andEnglandand quilted tunics in Italy. {wikipedia}

ABOUT ME:
My career began in the Garment District of New York City. I remember going on lunch breaks walking by a plethora of Italian men who were hanging out chatting. They were the sample makers. I went to sample sales at every opportunity while I was scrounging to make ends meet and still look fabulous.

Fast forward many years and I have been fortunate to travel the world while working in fashion and retail. I have a tendency to like European designers, especially Escada and Feraud as their fit is consistent and seems to work with the American body type (especially for those of us who are not perfect!)

When in Frankfurt, I would take two trains and a taxi to hit my favorite outlet store. I believe in the European way of ‘wardrobing’: having a few, high quality items versus a lot of junk.

But our closets are bursting and it\'s time to go and I have begun exploring other closets to add to this one ... always hunting with that eye for quality and workmanship!

I promise to always describe and measure accurately, and will note any flaws so offer with confidence.

... I WILL BE HAPPY TO COMBINE SHIPPING ...

IF FLAT RATE IS MORE ECONOMICAL : THAT IS HOW I WILL SHIP!
