Thisis an old Tiki totem that is 32” in height and 9 ½” across the head at thewidest point. It weighs approximately 43lbs. and will be shipped Parcel Post (within the US). It is hand carved from some sort of yellowishcolored wood, perhaps palm. The wood isquite dense and consequently heavy. Thesurface of the wood is pecky which should provide a clue as to what kind ofwood it actually is. It originally hadsome sort of color on it as we can see vestiges of an old red stain or paint incertain areas.

Thetotem is slightly canted as the carver followed the natural line of thetree. The piece isn’t signed and wedon’t know exactly where it originally came from. It looks Polynesian to us. A knowledgeablecollector has indicated to us that this piece is from the Marquesas Islands.The piece is definitely not new. Wepurchased this Tiki about 15-20 years ago and it has been displayed in our homeever since. Our best guess is that thisitem is probably from the 1930’s–1950’s time period but we have no way of beingsure.

Theitem is in good original condition as old wooden items go. It has the usual scuffs and surfacedehydration cracks one would expect.However, the wood is quite stable and we have done nothing to the pieceover the years other than give it an occasional coat of wax. You see it as we found it. It has a nice patina and displayswell.
