There is one fabric with bowling pins, another has text and animals (\"smart as a ...fox\"; \"wise as an... owl\", etc), and one has a very interesting geometric print that stands out with a three dimensional effect (pic # 6). We believe several of the fabrics you see in the pics are feed sack scraps.
The light purple fabric used for the backing seems to have come also from recycled feed or flour (or sugar) sacks, dyed in that color. Notice the rustic, irregular seam that joins several pieces of fabric on the backing.
The overall look and feeling of this excellent quilt is that of rusticity, something made in a farm out of materials available, for their own use, not for sale or barter.
The quilt was set and quilted by hand, all of it. The batting is 100% cotton, the old fashion, \"clumpy\" type.
The pattern is \"Bow Tie\".
It measures approximately 76\" by 71\" across, so it is basically square. The bed is a queen, 80\" by 60\", and somehow this antique bedspread looks very well on it.
