Vintage Handmade Native Hawaiian Cordage -Coconut Fiber 15 ft. length Hawaii:

Hawaii estate find of coconut fiber cordage. This came to me in conjunction with some other native arts and crafts made in Hawaii my guess in the 1940s or 1950s. The native use would have been cordage for carrying \'umeke, used on the wa\'a or or for lashing. This length likely does not posses good tensile strength. It would not be suitable as working cordage but it would be excellent for decorative projects for example as trim for a pahu or on another craft or display project. Ideally Hawaiian cordage (rope) would be uniform in diameter and smoother in appearance. This length although not to the ideal standard did take a considerable amount of time and patience to plait and I can\'t imagine you would be able to find anything similar. CONDITION: Vintage
