Vintage Signed Sterling Hopi Cuff with Raised Wave DesignThis vintage hand wrought Hopi cuff bracelet is a work of art. It is made in the traditional Hopi jewelry making method referred to as overlay where one sheet of silver is applied over another. The top sheet consists of the design which is then hand cut and etched to form a raised relief design. The lower sheet is oxydized which provides interest and contrast. The dark background enhances the raised wave design. Hopi jewelry designs are inspired from the same abstract patterns we see on their incredible pottery. This is a classic Hopi cuff both in design and technique with quality smithing and precise detail.
The cuff is stamped with the silversmith\'s mark which looks like a Y merged with a T. It is not marked sterling which is not uncommon for older jewelry. It is definitely sterling though. It measures 2 3/8\" across inside. It measures 1 6/8\" front to back inside. The circumference of the inside is 6 7/8\" inside cuff including the 1\" opening. There is a 1\" opening where the wrist slips through. The cuff band is 7/8\"H all around. It weighs 33.8 grams.
This eye-catching cuff is a great vintage piece. It is a very well made bracelet circa 1970\'s. This cuff is in excellent condition. I do not polish my pieces as many collectors prefer their silver to be unpolished. It looks outstanding just as it is. Wear it alone or pile it on with lots of your Southwest pieces.
