Vintage Indigo Resist Dyed Cotton Textile/Two Stitch Patterns/Dogon, Mali/36x68:
$125.00

Interesting, vintage handwoven cotton and dyed African, Dogon, Mali indigo fabric.Textiles are dyed with the resist, stitch dyeing technique and each piece of indigo is unique. This piece is a nice combination of two different stitch dyed sections, recycled and sewn together from other worn works. Fours of the strips have oval, what I call“mouth” images but I’ve been told they symbolize shells; the other two strips have small butterfly images and lines; there are some “X” designs at either end and throughout.
36” x 68”;medium weight. Since piece is made of older, worn textiles, there are a few problems throughout: differences in length; piecing/patching stitches when adding newer areas; unfinished/unraving ends; a few holes/loosening of fabric, but most small or toward the ends/edges. But the fabric is clean, with a nice, soft feel, and is longer than most. And it has a wonderful design to it, so would be great for use with sewing projects that can use parts/smaller sections of it.
I was lucky to have“first choice”of severalshipments of indigos, as they arrived directly from Africa, and have many that I will be selling. I picked ones that were in the best condition, and/or the most unique, but there are almost always a few flaws, which I will note in my listings and photographs.(9796)
