WORLD WAR 2: 1940s JAPANESE STATIONARY

Utilizing unusual materials and showcasing beautiful designs, Japanese fountain pens are works of art. It\'s rather impressive when one is pulled out from someone\'s pocket or pencil case, isn\'t it? Very simple yet attractive and has more than 70 years of history, I will introduce you a fountain pen that were produced in after 1942 when it was the golden era of fountain pen making in Japan. This pen model is called “IDEAL” made by the Japanese maker “WARRANTED” factory that used to make fountain pens back in 1940s in central Tokyo, Japan. Neither the pen or the company does not exists anymore.

Many unique pens were produced and sold by three giants; Pilot, Sailor, Platinum during that time. Japan had the biggest economic booming all over the country; many stationary factories were made which does not exist anymore. Today I will upload such a pen that produced in 1940s in Tokyo Japan and not available anymore.

Ebonite Pen Body with Red Urushi Tamenori by \"Wajima\" Urushi masters in 1940s

APPEARANCE & DESIGN: EBONITE BODY & WAJIMA URUSHI:

This is a classy looking fountain pen. It’s all red ebonite with gold plated finials and threading and comes with a clip. Due to its age pen seems a bit worn off as you can see in the picture. The ebonite warms to your hand while you write and it feels like satin. The pen is glossy red same as pictures, it does show fingerprints, but they are easily wiped away with a soft cloth. Cap clip & trim comes in 14K solid gold and it is engraved as \"R 14K\"

Stocking Price is $2000, So, Please offer with confidence.

The Urushi is very thick on the ebonite body and it is a quite large size of pen on your hand, sizewise and Urushi tamenori could be compared to many Nakaya, Namiki urushi pens. I have done research on the urushi on the ebonite body and it seems like the urushi was done by the famous “Wajima: Masters of Local Urushi Lacquer Craft” the birth place of all the Urushi arts in Japan. Even many of the Nakaya and Namiki urushi arts were also produced in Wajima. Wajima it’s a place and lacquerware brand at the same time still exists from 1860s.

WAJIMA URUSHI ART & HISTORY:

The traditions of urushi lacquer craft developed during the Edo Period (1603-1868) and flourished during the Meiji Period (1868-1912). The characteristic of the local urushi styles were found in Tokyo, Kyoto, Takamatsu, Kanazawa, and Wajima, where this craft has continued to the present day. Platinum produced many Urushi pens from Kanazawa and the same way all the high end Namiki and Urushi were produced in Wajima.

Japanese Handcrafted Wajima Red Urushi Tamenori:

The artwork of the pen was done in “Wajima” as well. The pen aged more than 70 years; you can still see the urushi is still in good condition despite of its age. Very high quality expensive lacquer was used and you can only see that quality now in many high end Namiki and nakaya pens. Pen comes in the condition same as the pictures. The difference between Wajima high end urushi and other urushi is very simple, Wajima carrying on the traditional techniques of Wajima lacquerware and putting in extensive time and effort as we go through the entire process consisting of more than 70 steps. The master artists still kept the secrets of the processing for more than hundreds of years and only passed through generation to generation.

PISTON STOPPER AMAZING EYEDROPPER:

Eyedropper-filler\" is not just a term of speech - some very high quality fountain pens, such as the Danitrio Mikado and the Junikaku series pens, and even some Nakaya, Nimiki models utilized the entire pen barrel as an ink reservoir and are most conveniently filled using a common high capacity ink dropper. The eye dropper has a piston mechanism that helps you to intake a huge amount of ink in the barrel and when you almost finish using the ink, the piston will help you to drain out rest of inks when you clean your pen. This mechanism creates an airtight atmosphere to ensure leaking out of ink and also constant ink flow to the feeder.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:

I bought two pens of these and both of the pens I have are urushi lacquered over ebonite. It is a very comfortable pen to use for long periods of time and the urushi coating is beautiful and a piece of art. The pen has a 14K single tone M nib, that is made by Warranted as I mentioned before. It is a dream to write with and by far one of the best pens that I have ever written with. Or I would just say this is the one, one that will blow your mind.

I really like the design of the pen. While the cap is almost flat top the barrel is finished in a nice torpedo shape. It is a lightweight pen and the balance is perfect. Since it has passed quite a bit time since purchase, please be aware of some mild scratches, you may not see them because it is so minor but I mention anyway. For details, please check the photos. I tried my best with the pictures for you.

WHY SO EXPENSIVE & HARD TO FIND:

If you are a collector like me, you would rather kill someone to get one of these. But you simply cannot have these, specially made by Wajima for 1940s brand that does not exists anymore. I own two of them and I will upload both of them (another one comes in black kaga urushi makie) for you whoever knows it’s worth and can honor the craftsmanship and Japanese history of making pens.
