Vintage Jemez Pueblo Mudhead Alma (Concha) Maestas from 1980\'s from he Taos period. Item is signed \"Alma L. Concha Toas\", Alma Concha Jemez Pueblo is an award-winning Storyteller artist. She learned from her mother, Carrie Reid Loretto, a respected pottery artist. In 1979, Alma participated in the landmark exhibition, \"One Space: Three Visions,\" at theAlbuquerque Museum. Three years later, in 1982, she was featured in National Geographic Magazine. In the 1980s, she lived for a while at Taos Pueblo, where she worked for a short time.
This lovely mudhead is 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It is in excellent vintage condition please use the photos for exact condition and please feel free to contact if you have any questions prior to offerding. The item is from a non-smoking home and available as we liquidate my Aunt\'s estate and her extensive collection of native american art.
Alma(Concha) Maesta, \"Painted Parrot,\" member of the Water Clan was born in 1941.She is half Jemez and half Laguna.She is half Jemez and half Laguna. She was inspired to continue the tradition of pottery making by her Mother, Carrie Reid Loretto.Alma started experimenting with clay at age 7 and decided that she enjoyed making figurines most. She paints with natural colors andfires her pottery the traditional way. Alma specializes in handmade Jemez Pueblo clay figurines, storytellers, koshares, nativity’s, and can also hand coil traditional pottery.
She has won many awards, has been mentioned or featured in many publications and her work is in the permanent collection of theSmithsonian Museum, Plymouth Historical Society Museum, Sipapu Gallery, Plymouth, MI., The Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico and 1978 Collection of the Mother Superior, Rome, Italy.Payment is expected within 2 days of winning offer or item will be relisted.
