Vintage Judaica Metalwork Hen Holon Hanukkah Menorah Maccabee Soldiers:
$50.00

This is one of many vintage Judaica metalwork pieces from my personal collection that I am putting up for sale or sale.  Many pieces were made in Israel by artists for companies such as Pal-Bell, Oppenheim, the Dayagi Brothers, Hen Holon and others in the 1950s-1960s (see more in the history section below). Many feature the chemically-induced verdigris green or blue patina that is a hallmark of Israeli metalwork from this period. I do not clean these pieces, so you will see some tarnish and candle wax on the items listed. I do not want to damage the patina so I leave it up to the new owner to clean the item.   All types of Judaica metalwork pieces (Menorahs, Kiddush Cups, candlestick Holders, etc.) are or will be listed, please see the last few photos included in this listing and email me if you want more information on a specific piece.

HISTORY: Maurice Ascalon founded the Pal-Bell Company in Tel Aviv in the late 1930s. Ascalon, Oppenheim, and the Dayagi brothers all made high quality metalwork pieces. An Ascalon contemporary, Diyagi, also Hungarian-born, manufactured decorative metalwork and Judaica from premises named simply \"Diyagi.\" At a later stage, after he handed it over to his sons, and the company was renamed Hen Holon.

Many consider Ascalon to be the father of modern Judaica art-deco. It was Ascalon who introduced the chemically-induced verdigris (green patina) that later became a hallmark of Israeli artistic metalwork items found in the form of candlesticks, trays, bookends, brass and copper decorative wall plates, ashtrays or letter holders. The most common motifs worked on the items were Jewish religious symbols, birds, animals and fauna, bearded and sandaled biblical figures or lithe young girls in flowing dresses carrying wicker baskets or water jugs high over their heads as they danced in the fields of the Land of Israel.
