Judy Cranmer

Judy was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. She graduated with honours in design from the Vancouver School of Art in 1956. After two years of freelancing in silk screen printing and fabric design, she travelled and worked throughout Europe from 1958-1961. Ironically it was there that her interest in Northwest Coast Indian art developed after seeing some of the European collections. Returning to Canada she met Doug Cranmer, noted Kwatkiutl artist and from him, over a period of eight years, her unique art form developed. She chose pottery as her medium and when she wrapped a Kwakiutl Raven design around a pot her distinctive style of pottery was born. \"Tweedie\" as she was affectionately called by her art school friends, exhibited extensively across Canada and the United States. Her work is represented in widespread private collections.

The distinctive Northwest Coast design elements characteristic of Judy Cranmer\'s pottery represent an extensive knowledge of traditional native culture and design.

\"I have always been intrigued by the designs applied to a variety of traditional objects of the Northwest Coast such as dance blankets, baskets and painted wooden containers. As a potter and graphic designer, I have endeavoured to go a step further and adapt the classic formline elements to the medium of clay.\"

They are both in excellent condition,no chips or cracks.
They measure 4 3/8\" tall,base is 2 1/4\" across and they are 10 3/8\" in circumference,taken from the middle,the largest part.
