Here\'s an ultra rare mahogany baritone ukulele sold by K and K Musical Instruments, Inc. of New York. All I can find about the company is that it incorporated in 1946 and folded in the 1980s. Absolutely NOTHING on the interweb about what they made or sold. And I\'ve never seen another instrument for sale by this company.
It\'s 29\" long. No label, serial number or other marks other than the headstock logo decal.
It\'s all mahogany, and I <think> it might be solid wood, but it\'s impossible to tell from the edge of the soundhole, so that\'s just a guess. The nut and bridge saddle appear to be brown bakelite, celluloid or some primitive plastic. A crack on the middle of the back appears stable, and <may> go all the way through. Again, hard to see, but that would suggest it\'s solid and not laminates.
Otherwise, typical dings and finish wear for an instrument of this age, which I guess to be late 40\' or early 50s. It has that old \"Grandpa\'s attic\" smell. The tuners appear to be original and are functional, but probably could use some attention. No case.
So, a great instrument? No. But a really rare one? Yeah, it seems so.
Enjoy!
