Willy Brandes was born in 1876 in Bornstädt near Potsdam. At a young age he began an apprenticeship as a decorative painter. He studied under Albert Hertel (1843-1912) and Paul Friedrich Meyerheim (1842-1915) at the Berlin Academy and later was a master student of Eugen Bracht (1842-1921).. Immage measures 15 1/4\" by 11 3/8\" total measurement is 17 3/8\" by 13 3/8\"... I ran a damp paper towel over the signature just to bring it out a little better, it dried back to normal. Over all the painting looks good, There is a minor paint scratch as seen in my pictures in the sky area above the horses head........
