Up for offer is a vintage Gila Art Pottery Tile made with a Native American theme. Design is described as a Hopi Sun Face. It is multicolored on a turquoise background. The image is formed by raised lines, in cloisonne style. Color are added within the recessed areas. Tile itself is a terra cotta reddish color.

The underside is covered with cork backing. This piece would have been originally sold with a paper label. I have verified that this design was made by the McKusick\'s Gila Pottery studio in Globe Arizona. (Pottery most likely is stamped under the cork... I just can not say for sure.)

Piece measures approx 5 7/8\" square and is almost 1/2\" thick. Piece weighs close to 1 1/2 lbs by itself; Shipping cost is based on package weight of over 2 lbs.

Condition: The piece is without major chips and has no cracks. Edges do show nicks and dings. The most noticeable wear is on the upper right which has multiple nicks (see close-up photo). The other corners have less noticeable wear with the left side edge also having some nicks. When looking closely one will also find some small nicks/bites on a few edges in design (see last close-up). All in all, the wear does NOT detract from fine appearance of this piece! It is not readily noticed when viewing piece on display. There is no crazing in the glaze.

Hopefully a nice find for collectors of art tiles, as well as American Southwest & Native American design motifs. Might be special for those collecting Gila Pottery creations!
