Up for sale is a Vi-Rex brand Violet Ray unit with 3 glass wands. The unit is in good condition and is not cracked and the power cord appears to be in good condition. All 3 glass wands were tested and work.
There is an adjustment knob at the end of the unit that you turn to increase or decrease the amount of Violet Rays, this control works. When it is plugged in you hear a clacking noise which is normal...it is part of the circuit that generates a high voltage which causes the glowing. The sealed glass tube has a noble gas in it, usually argon gas, which glows in the presence of the high voltage present inside the case (and connected through the metal electrode on each glass tube). The high voltage arcing also creates an ozone smell which is normal.
Included is the paperwork shown in the picture, including The VioletRays booklet which is 52 pages long. The booklet is in only average shape. All the pages are present, but the front and back covers are loose. The two staples are also rusted and falling apart, so the pages are loose from the staples. The booklet is copyrighted 1921 and gives their explanation of how theunit works and how they thought it could be used to help numerous ailments.
The case is in very poor condition as can be seen in the last 2 pictures.
While the unit is in good working order, there is no way to predict it\'s reliability considering it\'s age.
