Here is a very nice handmade folk art wood box . I found this and another box similar at a shop in a small mountain town in North Carolina.The box is heavy, appears to be predominately made of maple and on the sides are inlaid pieces of wood. Those look to be mahogany,walnut,oak, and more maple. The artist looks to have used some type of carving tool/leather tool to make the designs on the top and sides.The handle is a simple screw.The box is in Fair/good as is vintage condition with a age crack in the wood at the right bottom side and bottom.It looks like it developed decades ago and is stable now.Please look at all pictures as it shows it. The bottom has four wood legs and the initials of the man ,H.E.M. The only history I have of this piece is the dealer I purchased it from bought this and another box by this man\'s family as he was going into a retirement home. The box measures 11 1/4 ins. long,7 1/2 ins. deep and 5 1/2 ins. tall.
I would date this box to the late 1940s to 1950s time period.Perfect addition for your folk art,antique box collection,mountain cabin decor,Farmhouse decor, and Mid-century and Rustic decors.Many Thanks,
