Study of Textile for collection:The item has importance of real gold plating on the copper material. The fabric design created from metal thread. Gold hunger traders had burned a lot of such fabrics to collect the gold and copper from it. Therefore, now a days, it becomes rare to find such beautiful fabric. Old textile mills have closed, so no more production of such high quality textile. These fine silver / gold gilt brocade are found in the region of North India in the city Banaras / Varansai. Fine heavy gauge (gaji) silk yarns are woven intricately as wrap and weft along with gold gilt copper wraped yarn thread weaving the silk base of the saree. The motif commonly used are geometric, trellis design as well as delicate florals. Motif have been inspired by nature, Banaras Brocade have been known for butis (small flowers), butas( large flowers) and jaal (shrub).

Description of items

Fabric:Gauge silk (or Satin silk). Also Known as Banaras Brocade.

Work:Probably 20th century. Zari -A real gilted copper wire wrapped on the yarn thread for weaving in the fabric for creating design or pattern. The sari is in vintage condition. The design reflect ancient mughal influence which is seen from the floral motif in geometric patern all over the fabric.The shine of the brocade is glittering as well as dull look.
