Vintage Native American Navajo Sterling &Turquoise Kachina Bolo/Pendant with Thomas Curtis Sr.\'s Hallmark
  • Kachina measures 4 1/4\" tall by 2 1/4\" wide at the widest location.
  • Weight is 68 grams
  • Headdress sports 3 large beautiful natural turquoise cabochons and measures approximately 2 1/4\" wide and 1 1/16\" tall. The center stone measures 3/4\" x 1 1/16\" with the 2 outside stones measuring approximately 7/8\" x 5/8\".
  • Lower cabochon is approximately 3/4\" x 3/4\".
  • The eyes are a slightly more green color turquoise than the larger stones.
  • Hallmark is signed T Curtis in script with a sun ray symbol to the right of the signature along with word sterling below thesignature. The script signature matches the examples show on page 103 of Hougart\'s The Little Book of Marks on Southwestern Silver and on Perry Null Trading website under Artists.
  • The cord has been removed because Seller wore it as a pendant. Bolo Tie Clasp was NOT removed and in original working condition.
  • This Kachina was owned and proudly worn by the Seller\'sStep Fatherfor many years until his passing.
  • ThomasCurtis Sr. was considered among the top Navajo silversmiths, a masterjewelerwho pursued his art for over 50 years until 2013. Thomas receivedmany awards, among them Best in Show in the 1980’s at the Northern ArizonaMuseum, Best in Class at the 1987 Santa Fe Indian Market, Best in Class at theHeard Museum, plus he was featured in the May 2003 issue of Arizona Highways. Inan interview with Perry Null, Thomas indicated that he had won over 600 ribbonsfor his work. Thomas wasa benchsilversmith for Rocking Horse Ranch in Flagstaff in 1985. He eventually usedhis ownhallmark which is T Curtis stamped in script. Thomas makeseverything by hand including his die sets. The hardened steel Die Sets are usedto stamp the silver jewelry. Thomas also uses chisels to flawlessly carvesilver. He is the father of NavajoSilversmith Jennifer Curtis.
