Charmingly primitive, this Hand Made Vintage Native American Navajo Silver Dragonfly Pin has stamped designs on his wings and body.The body, wings and antennae are separate,solderedpieces and his buggy eyes are raised rings of silver.

The dragonfly is an ancient insect and has been on earth around 300 million years. Naturally, especially given its fascinating life cycle and traits, it figures in the symbols and myths of many different cultures (including theidea they were once dragons).The dragonflybegins life in the water and later, takes flight.It is nature\'s fastest insect and some species can attain speeds ofover 40 miles per hour.To Native Americans, among others, the dragonfly is a symbol of change and metamorphosis, lightness and speed. To some, it also symbolizes happiness, purity andself knowledge. To some Native American tribes, the dragonfly is a medicine animal, associated with healing. And to the Navajos, it is a symbol of water.

The brooch measures about 1-1/4\"wide (the wingspan)by 1-3/4\"long. Itweighs3.6 grams.

It is not signed (although there maybe some kind of touch mark on the back). It tests as silver. (Penultimate photo.)

Thebroochis in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with only surface dirt, scratches and tarnish as expected signs of wear for its ageand some inconsistencies in execution that only add to its hand made charm.Asyou should be able to see in the (enlarged) photos, oneof the antennae is a little thin in one spot, where you can see solder, which appears to have happened when it was made. It has a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer\'s discretion.
